This session will explore the remarkable life and achievement of Regina Jonas, the first woman ever to be ordained as a rabbi. Born in 1902 in Berlin, Jonas received her rabbinic diploma in 1935.
She subsequently served as a pastoral counselor, lecturer and community rabbi throughout Germany.
She died in Auschwitz concentration camp in 1944. Through selected historical texts and readings Limmud participants will come to understand and appreciate the brief yet fulfilling life of Regina Jonas.
