This interactive session explores the concept of fake news and pervasive trends in media bias, particularly in mainstream coverage of Israel. Participants are divided into groups for an activity that demonstrates how simple facts can be manipulated into competing narratives. The session sheds light on the inner workings of the “fake news” phenomenon, teaches how to recognize whether an article is authentic or fake, and provides techniques on how to counter fake news. The impact of the “social media bubble” and the importance of reading news from a variety of sources are also explored.
